cooling temps

deepsea Nov 04, 2006 03:40 AM

Hello,
I just had a quick question to anyone who wishes to give me their input. I have durango Mtn. kings, chihuahua mtn. kings, and Arizona mtn. kings. I am wondering what the optimum temperature to cool them at would be. In my own research I have found numbers from 45 degrees to 65 degrees. Anyone who has experience with this please feel free to gvie your opinion. I am trying to find some sort of average.
Thanks,
Ryan

I may be of little help here but can share my own experiences with those three.
Those temps seem fine to me and I have tried to get as close to 50F as I could but here in central FL we seldom see an extended cool period that low. Sometimes I use a.c and I have had breeding success with all 3 with no special cooling at all.
So I would say that if you could maintain the temps. you mentioned above,it would very likely help your (snake's)breeding success, but may not be completely necessary.
Whatever your methods, please share the results and pics of the babies. I think they are some of the most beautiful of the kings.
Good luck.

i'm not too helpful, but i have one of those in/out fans in my window for the snake room and if it gets too cold i turn the heat on in there...so it stays cold enough to sleep, but not so cold that i'm freezing my tooshie off to water them during their sleep.
