FL Press: Man hospitalized by Cobra bite

Nov 04, 2006 08:44 AM

WTSP (Tampa Bay, Florida) 04 November 06 Man hospitalized after Cobra bite
Tampa, Florida: Anti-venim was rushed by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital tonight to save the life of a snake handler bit by a cobra earlier in the day.
The victim was a 22-year-old man from Pinellas County who was bit on the left hand by an Albino Monaco cobra, said hospital spokesman Will Darnall. His name was not released at his family's request.
The incident happened while he was packing a 4 foot-long cobra for an out-of-state reptile show this weekend. A co-worker drove him to the hospital, Darnall said.
St. Joseph's has a refrigerator full of anti-venom, Darnall said, but not the specific cobra anti-venom needed to treat the victim. That had to be flown in by helicopter from a special laboratory in Miami.
Darnall said the victim, a licensed snake handler, was reported in fair condition Friday night.

Does anyone have anymore details? It sounds way too close to home as far as this forum goes.
