Tristis ID

rdrowe Nov 04, 2006 01:36 PM

Hey everyone, just looking for some ideas on if these two are tristis tristis, t. orientalis or mixed? They are clutch mates I got as juveniles that are supposed to be orientalis. They looked orientalis at about 4 months old when I got them.
Thanks for your help
Robin

Hi Robin,

They look like crosses to me. That's just my two cents, I only have a little experience with t. orientalis.

How are your ambiguous caudos?

Cheers

Hey Neal
I pretty much think they're mixes too

the cauds are as ambiguous as ever, any luck on finding a male?

Those appear as black tristis, as we have here in the states.

The books call one type, Freckled monitors, V.T.orientalis and the other type, V.t.tristis. The strait up reality is there is no such line of difference. In many places, such as Alice, there are both and more types in one small area. Textbook V.t.tristis, textbook, V.t.orientalis, and others that are much more different. Like in Alice, there are redheaded black tristis, with bars on their chins, never seen these anyplace else.

Not far from Ayers Rock, theirs another type that is lite blue with orange bands. Again, all around that area, there are these and those and those and these.

The only areas I know of that have one type are, the southwest seems to only have Black tristis and the topend seems to only have ugly freckleds.

So to the subject at hand, The original Freckleds came from Germany(Bernie E.) and those are not them, nor are they crosses from them. The black tristis in this country came from me and one other person, and those in the picture are very much like the some of the originals.

In my case, one of the originals a male came from the San Diego show, and was textbook V.t.t. and three females came from the orlando show, and looked like those.

The first black ones produced came me, and the first freckleds came from Jim O'Dell from Phoenix. I then got freckleds from Jims stock.

So you have caudos?????? lets see pics please. Cheers
