cooling problem

wisema2297 Nov 04, 2006 06:19 PM

Here is the scenario. We have had to discontinue the use of the hvac since our daughter has tested positive for allergies to cats and everything else under the sun (got rid of the cat). The house we are in is a rental since our new home is under construction (just started and wont be ready till spring). We have a wood stove that heats the whole house really well, too well actually. I can't find a spot cool enough for brumating the corns real well. We will definitly need the wood stove as the weather is getting cooler in VA but the temps are constantly above 70 degrees even in the farthest upstairs bedroom. Has anyone heard of the small portable AC units that sit in the middle of the room much like the small electric heaters?

yes they make little free stand up air conditioner units....

easier way........find a relative or friend with a basement......throw the snakes down there for 2 months....water them every 2 weeks at first ......maybe check in the first week....they take awhile to get used to being left alone......they may make a mess the first week roaming around alot.........till the cool weather comes

Now, I just need to convince someone since the response I will get is.."you want to put WHAT in my basement?"

one question
how many snakes do you own?
the reason im asking is that it is not necessary(sp) to brumate corn snakes for any reason except to give the owner a break. they mate readily and produce just as many eggs with high fertility with out brumating them. so if you only have a few it is not really necessary but it does give a welcome break if you have quite a few. my corns get just the normal drop in temp that my house gets this time of year but they always have a hot spot and food and water with no problems.
just my 2 cents

I agree with the last post. Mine bred just fine without cooling.
