help!! sick girl??

veiledtales Nov 04, 2006 10:27 PM

so i think my veiled is sick. she normally seems to be very healthy and is a great eater!! but yesterday, intead of being her bright normal self, she turned a pale lim-greenish color. along with the washed-out look, i found this on the floor of her cage. you can clearly make out cricket parts and this is obviously undigested food. i think it is vomit rather than feces because it is much much larger than her poops usually are, and again it is undigested. is she sick? did she become stressed out and puke? was she overfed? is there anything i can or should do for her? she has since returned to her usual color but i am very nervous. please help me! and sorry for the gross picture.

Its not normal for a chameleon to throw up...if that is indeed what that is....and I'm not sure that it is. Did you feed her anything unusual? What did you feed her? I have never seen a chameleon throw up even when its overfed.

Sometimes insects can pass through them undigested or partly undigested. Some poops can be larger than others too. What is the basking temperature?

You asked..."is she sick?"...all I can suggest is that you get a vet to check her out if you think there is anything wrong.

Hope she's okay.

shes not sick what couldofd happen was you over fed her and she has a weak stomach this hapend to my chameleon before but it has never hapend again and the reason why it happend was because i over fed her to many crickets at once its like you eating twenty hamburgers you noe your gona throw up eventually same rule with your chameleon. so relax shes gona be fine

although that is quite likely you cannot tell this keeper that there is nothing wrong with her/his cham. There may be a problem. S/he did not discuss particulars about setup, feeding, temps, water, gutloading, handling, age, etc. Let's HOPE you are correct, but none of us can give a definitive diagnosis.

She looks good in the pic. How old is she? What size crickets are you feeding her? May be too many, too big. Theadults with wings have more chitin (exoskeleton) which is more difficult to digest.

Can you give some more details on her setup? See link below and go to Tips for asking questions.

Cyrus ate a superworm beetle and spit it out, but that was due to bad taste - it was pretty funny . In your case, you may want to vary her diet by offering silkworms or wax worms (the latter being quite fatty and should only be a treat). Is she eating any veggies? Have you offered them?

btw, the smell should tell you if it is puke or poop
