getting a baby to eat greens....out of a bowl

lissag25 Aug 07, 2003 01:00 AM

ok so my new babie doesn't eat its greens out of the bowl.. i've tried all of my little tricks but non seem to work... she will eat them if she is hand fed but i don't like doing that because they become spoiled.. any ideas on how to get her to eat out of a bowl.. i think she as ADD or something because when she eats anything she gets distracted and runs to look at herself in the glass or jump on my hand .. and then when a cricket gets close to her she goes in for the kill.. what a lil character she is..

btw - i've tried putting a couple of crickets in with her greens and that didn't work..and i'll drop them into the bowl and she eat them one at a time...spike never gave me such fuss, good little boy

My baby, Sydney, wouldn't eat them from a bowl, either. He would, however, eat them if I just put some on his rock, so I bought a small dish that looks like a rock & voila!

I use a big reptile dish to feed Arwen. The sides are tall enough so the crickets can't get out but yet Arwen can climb out. With all the crickets in one place, all she has to do is take aim and go for it. Sometimes, she misses and gets a mouthful of greens Maybe this will help your short-attention-span dragon!

I like how you lifted his basking spot up, and carpeted is with the indoor outdoor. Looks real nice. Arwen must love that.

inside the box when it is time to go to sleep, too. All I have to do is stick her head at the opening and she crawls right in. She doesn't move until morning. It amazes me how fast they can fall asleep!

Thanks for the compliment! She is growing so rapidly that my husband is going to have to build a bigger cage for her sooner than we thought. She's quickly outgrowing the 20L (as you can see from the photo). Everything is kind of crammed in there but she gets plenty of excersise when I come home in the evening.

a "bowl" may not be necessary. If its too deep, it seems to scare my little guys. I use a potted plant saucer for feeding salad & pellets. The sides are not too high, more than one dragon can eat at the same time, they go in the dishwasher for easy clean up & they are cheap. They come in lots of sizes, even Wal-mart carries them in the garden dept.
Give them a try!

That is what I use and I get them from Walmart too! LOL The little grey ones are what I buy.

That's it!!!
They look so happy in the saucers, not overwhelmed at all, they can dance in and out of the salad if they want to and see the other dragons eating it & realize it's "a good thing".
I didn't have a pic, glad you did!

Ashtrays for my babies.
for larger dragons, I found some great cat bowls at the Dollar Store. They have little paws and fish all over them (lol), but oh well. For $6.00, everyone got a new bowl.
In this pic, it happens to be a small Crystal Christmas candy dish with etched poinsetta in the bottom.
I do have Classy Lizards...lol

P.S. The off color paper towel was a lighting snafu, no editing.
