Leopard Gecko not eating!

josh1990 Nov 05, 2006 10:09 AM

I was given a leopard gecko 2 weeks ago and has not eaten anything since then, its tail has started to lose size.

I have kept the temp. in the 75-83 degree range and it has a hide-spot with damp moss in it to have a humidity spot.

I am truly worried about it and any help would be wonderful.

Just off the top of my head the temps sound a bit low. 83 isn't horribly low for an average cage temp but the hot end should really be closer to 90. Ideally you want a temperature gradient within the tank so that the gecko can move to the temp it prefers.

It sounds like you may only have one hide. You might want to add another since it's hard for a gecko to move to a more appropriate temperature if it's only got one hide to choose from.

The stress of arrival can also contribute to not eating though 2 weeks seems a bit long for that cause alone.

There may be other causes too. One site I found helpful is as follows:

It has a lot of good info both on general care and on symptoms of problems you might run up against.

Hope this helps.
