What to invest in?

daveypythons Nov 05, 2006 10:12 AM

I have always loved ball pythons and bloods but have only focused on balls. My dad and I want to branch out and get into the blood morphs. What do you think is a good blood morph red or black to invest in?

Red and Black Bloods are not morphs.... they are the normal varieties of two separate species. Red Blood = Python brongersmai, Black Blood (Sumatran Short-Tailed Python) = Python curtus. There aren't a lot of morphs in the Blood world quite yet, but check out VPI's site to see what's out there. Off the top of my head, all I can think of is albino, ivory, genetic stripes, and there's an interesting morph in the Borneo STPs that some people are calling "Ultra-Breits".

I knew there was a difference between red and blacks but I was wondering were there different morphs with each animal.

The only real black morph out there is albinos that the Barkers have. I don't think at the current price that is really something to invest in, there quite pricey even for hets.

As far as Reds go theres Albinos T and T-, Hypos, Tigers, various Stripe lines, "Clown" Albinos, Ivories (Matrix is the het form), Lilys, and several other interesting things popping up many that haven't been proven yet.

Borneos have Ultra Briet and a few close relatives of that morph, Hypo, Stripe, Super Stripe, Granite, Marble, Abberant, Albino and some others.

This is just going off the top of my head and with things that are out there to the public (most of them). Alot of the genetics haven't been proven and there are several of us working on it. If you have a specific question about something let us know, your asking kind of a broad question. Just search through the boards and other places for pictures and such.

Get what YOU like, not what is a "GOOD Investment". Ultimately, these animals could be with you for 20 years, and people seem to forget why we keep them. Because it's fun and we like them!! Personaly, I'd go with some nice Blacks if you are narrowing it down between reds and blacks(non-morphs any way), but that's just me. Good luck.

Yes same thing with balls. I only keep what I like like albinos, pieds, and pins. I really like the ultra brights though.

I personally think the 'best' investment is in what you like (to reitterate what others have said). If personally think from the 'longterm' $ aspect, that the Ivory Bloods are probably it. But, they are still WAY out of most folks price range from what I know about them. So, it will be some time on them for sure... plus, I'm sure they are not easy to pry from Tracy's hands!

I'm partial to these snakes: 'ULTRA-Breits!'

Ultra-Breit and 'normal' comparison pic:

A KILLER Ultra-Breit...

p.s. - The 'Blood/STP' community is a bit more 'quiet' than the Ball community. You will need to dig a little more to find the real treasures as most 'Blood/STP' keepers hoard anything nice! Hahaha...

i'm starting with normal groups of all types(reds, blacks, borneos)and hopeing to add the morphs to each group.1st will be the marbels then het albinos, stripes ect....
its kind of like having normal ball pythons and going out and getting the hets of each morph you liked.
but if you have the cash buy the morph as soon as you see them. i just missed out on a 05 female marbel for $150~ at a local expo sat.
