Breeding E. trivittatus

ruthiesea Nov 05, 2006 12:47 PM

Does anybody know where I can find any information about breeding E. trivittatus? I love these frogs but they are a little hard to find.

Thanks,

Al

I've never had these myself, but POISON FROGS Professional Breeders Series, suggests a spawning hut that just fits the frogs. They lay from 30 or more eggs, which can be raised together as the tads aren't cannibalistic. Larval development takes about 90 days. This source does not mention either male guarding or transport to a water body in E. trivittatus, as it does with some of the other Epipediobates species, so I assume you would need to remove the eggs to a small shallow aquarium, keep just moist until the tads hatch, then gradually add more water, etc. Hopefully, there will be someone else here who has some actual experience hatching them.

After I had posted, I found a rather nice complete care sheet for E. trivittatus on the Dendroboard. Go to the forum and then to Care sheets to find it listed.
