Here is my male Broad-Banded Red Bamboo ratsnake, born the 30th of August this year. He's a first generation captive bred animal from Malaysia (Cameron Highlands, Pahang). It's unfortunately not the greatest picture, but hopefully better pictures will follow shortly.

Best of luck with that little gem. This has been quite a fall for ratsnake fans. Latis and pulchras and mands, oh my.

Best regards
John

John,

I haven't seen the pulchra (shouldn't it be pulchrus by now?) for sale here in Europe. As far as I know only Klaus-Dieter Schulz from Germany is working with this subspecies from the Bamboo ratsnake and I think that he sold some of his offspring for a lot of money to Pro-Exotics. You Americans are paying more for these snakes than we Europeans do!

Regards,

Bert

Oh it would be pulchrus if I wasn't stubborn. I stick to elaphe mandarina and elaphe porphyracea. Yes somebody has let the genie out of the bottle. I know of another ratsnake specialist who picked up pulchra last week. He sent me a photo and I congratulated him on his new treasures. The next day the Pro-Exotics thread appeared here. So the guys with the deep pockets are going to be first. I will have to wait a while. But that suits my plans anyway. One species at a time is my thought.

Best regards
John

...who the other person is who picked up a pair of pulchrus: Rex Knight?

Bert

Sorry Bert. Not my place to name names of people who haven't announced themselves. However, the point is someone is ready to mainstream the pulchra. By my count, there are only two more subspecies of bamboos left unavailable; the nominate (p. porphyracea) from the western part of the range (India, Burma, Thailand and parts of SW China) and the Taiwanese subspecies (kawakamii). It remains to be seen if these will ever show up. But there are now already four subspecies which are very attractive and I believe relatively prolific breeders. That should make it possible in a few years to let even the poor (such as myself) own these beauties.

John

Bert,
He's gorgeous! I wish I could have worked with my pair of latis when they were younger and exhibited the colours that your male does. Nice pic of your Mandarin too, he's beautiful...I await the day I'm able to acquire some Vietnamese origin Mandarins!

Ryan,

It will be interesting for me to watch that male turn into a red coloured adult.

Bert
