variation in albino nelsoni

z10silver Nov 05, 2006 08:15 PM

I've noticed that my male and female adult albino nelsoni look quite different from one another. The female (pictured below as a baby) has very clean white bands, while the male has cream colored bands. His red bands seem to have a lighter, orange color compared to the females dark red bands. His head shape even seems to be different - shorter, more blunt. I've also seen many photos online with certain albino nelsoni having the white and yellow bands "reverse" as they age. What would be the cause for this to happen in some nelsoni, but not others? I was thinking perhaps it had to do with how much sinaloan one may have in its genes compared to another? Any thoughts?

There's a lot of variation in Nelson's (normals, hets and albinos). We're just starting to find out some of these variations now, as more people are working with Nelson's than ever before. It's quite possible that over time we'll find more varietys and phases of Nelson's milks than Hondurans. Although people have undoubtably bred Sinaloans into Nelson's, I doubt that has very more to do with creating abberancies - they're both rather similar in appearance and naturally intergrade.

What would happen if these two were bred together??

I have a male and a female that are very similar to that. I've bred them for several years. All the babies are albinos - it takes a couple years for the yellow and white bands to "reverse," as babies they all look like normal albinos.

Beautiful snake -Do both parents have the yellow/reverse bands? Did all the babies eventually get the "reverse bands" or did some turn out normal?

As I stated, my male and female are similar to the pics you posted, so no, both parents don't have reverse bands. I sold all my babies, so I don't know how many made the change to reversed band colors.
