Well for starters, he has some cherry tomatoes, and some lettuce in there...when i bought him, i also bought, "T-REX IGUANA DRY FORMULA"...for juvenile...they told me to put that in with his food...well right now the only thing he has done since we bought him home, is sleep lol...at least he is the only reptile we have (out of 18) that is smart enough to sleep during the night...lol...he is going to be my pet...the other reptiles we have are mostly for breeding purposes, as well as pets...but we have no intentions of breeding him...i cant have a dog or cat, so i chose an ig...i have always wanted one...i am going to have to check out the book that you recommended...i will have to swing by the book store...because the petco doesnt have any ig books down here right now...my husband didnt really want to get one...but it shut me up so he is happy lol...plus now he can get a retic python to breed with our albino burm without any [bleep]ing from the peanut gallery...it ME...lol...well any info you would like to throw my way would be great...for instance...how can you usually tell male from female...umm...attitudes?? etc...thank you in advance

Welcome aboard.

Not to sound mean or anything...
...but did you know anything about iguana captive care prior to purchasing one?
Reason I ask is, your questions are easily answered in a book or an informative iguana website, hence my curiosity.

We wouldn't recommend breeding it anyways, there are too many on the market to begin with.

Iguana disposition is random... some good, others a living hell, but on average they can tame down and become good pets.
Get rid of the tomatoes and lettuce in the diet, follow a proper one.
For quick, free information, the ever-so famous Melissa Kaplan iguana website (easy to google). Her book is also good, tho I too like Jammie prefer Hatfield's.

If you scroll around here you will find loads of information on enclosures/cages, diet, taming, health, etc.

This is a great board, lots of nice people with plenty of knowledge to help u out.
As with any pet, a visit to the Vet is a must for deworming etc.
Nice ig!

Definately buy the book someone else mentioned, "Green Iguana the ultimate owners manual". It is the best purchase an ig owner can make.

As far as the T-REX stuff, you can use it as a supplement, but don't use too much. Feed mostly dark leafy greens and squashes. Parsnips, when chopped finely, are good.

Yea id get rid of what ur feeding now the lettuce has no nutrition and the tomatos have too much acid in it but i do feed mine some here and there and i only add romaine to add water to his diet but not much . I mostly use collards i use it every meal then i add 3 to 5 other things and i mix it up ill buy somthing 1 time then change. Heres a great site to explanie the foods and tell u what foods to not over use. Some foods can block cal absortion. Heres the links.... http://www.greenigsociety.org/foodchart.htm

Its pretty good 1 they have a message bored too but not realy popular. Good Luck ur iggy will live the new food. dark greens are good just make sure to watch out for food not to over use.
