I need some help from breeders.....

tsusnakeguy Nov 06, 2006 11:07 AM

I know I posted this before but it got no response I would really like some help please.

I have had my colombians together for about a week now. The male is almost 3 and the female is I believe 6 now. Over the past couple of days he has been trying to "get in her pants" so to speak. But she doesn't want any apparently. Now I didn't cool them down because I wanted to see if I could do it without cooling and I was successful with my Rainbows because they were put together around the same time and have already tied up. Now with my red tails should I put my larger older male in there with the female, keep my younger male in there and see what happens, or take him out and try doing the whole cooling down thing?

I would leave the male in with her. I think if the male is trying then just let him keep going and the female will become more receptive. Patience is the virtue

If it has only been three days, I would not fret. I had a female that constantly fled to the opposite side of the cage for almost 2 months last breeding season. I left them together and eventually she came around. Maybe your female is not ready right now but with continued interest from the male she might become receptive in the near future. I would not give up on that pairing, just let them be and see what happens.

Did you feed them within that period or just leave them be?

I read in the boa manual that the female can sometimes "act extremely irritated or annoyed" by courting attempts by the male but it's all part of breeding and doesn't mean she will not mate after a while. Good that the male is trying! Just wait and see.

AS long as there are no issues, just leave them together. The female won't just breed with the first male to come along. He has to prove he is strong and willing to work for it.

with any breeding questions you may have. He breeds a lot of boas and is expecting a few clutches any time now. I have done a lot of business with him through the years and he is always willing to answer any questions I have. He doesn't come on kingsnake anymore but is doing a lot of shows. He and Stacy will be at the Atlanta Expo this weekend, so if you live near there, check him out. He's a great guy to deal with and his boas are some of the best in the country. Here is a pic of a boa I picked up from his place a while back. I'll take some updated pics soon.

Hope this helps!

HAHAHA I actually talk to him every now and then because I bought a great GREAT looking hypo from him. Maybe I will shoot him another email. I am glad to see someone else that likes Bill also.
