Heating in Large Sliding Glass Cage?

jswanson737 Nov 06, 2006 11:58 AM

Have a large melamine sliding glass door cage, large enough to house a couple 5' boas. Having problems figuring out how to heat one end of this cage, obviously the under tank heaters are useless, heat rocks are bad, and the ceramic heater at the top of the tank can burn these snakes. Any ideas? I appreciate the help!

RHP = Radient Heat Panel

Best Option

Flexwatt under a piece of PVC with a gap would be my second choice. I use this method on the side of the cage rather than the floor becasue I prefer ambient to belly heat for my Boas. But my new cages will have Pro-Products RHP's

Feel free to ask Any further questions.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but I have the same problem for my albino brum's and was leaning towards Radiant Heat Panels myself, but I live in the UK and was wondering if anyone is aware of a suppier over here?

I have sent an e-mail and hopefully they will be able to help.

I hope they have someone over here trading under licence as there would be issues with buying in the US and shipping over here ie:different voltage system,different plugs,warrenty,and of course it being illegal to sell electrical equipment without a sealed plug in this nany state!

Thanks for the reply
Jay

Great, thanks for the advice, I might have to go the route of the heat tape between the pvc... so you use two pieces of pvc and the heat tape between, you leave an air gap?

Thanks.

Well my back panel is 1/8 tileboard and while PVC would be a better choice its expensive and hard to come by. So I taped flexwatt directly to the back of the tileboard. Than the whole back is covered with reflectix (foilfaced bubblewrap). There is a air gap between the reflectix and the heat tape. This gap allows the heat build up to spread even and not be concentrated on a single point. Likewise if you cut out a hole in the panel to subsetthe flexwatt in a wall or floor. Than covering the inside with PVC and the outside with reflectix would be a great setup. Of course allow a space between the flexwat edge and the panle and of course the traditional air gap, talkin like 1/8".

Sorry no pics!

Good Luck
