to increase Ambient temps

xitch Nov 06, 2006 02:41 PM

I've got my girl in a 40 breeder right now, with a 100W basking bulb. I'm going to be building her a 4'x2'x18" cage this month. Right now in her 40gal the ambient temp is only 75, which i know is low. What Watt ceramic heat emitter do any of you recommend to get her 40gal up 15 or so ºF, and then to keep it up when she moves to her 4x2x18" cage?

I see no reason why a 100 watt in a 40 gallon is not enough or actually too much. Is the light in the tank with a cover or hanging above the tank. The top should be covered to retain heat. If the top is not covered maybe thats why you cant attain a higher temp. With the top covered you wont even need such a high wattage bulb. You can use a inexpensive 40 watt house bulb. I use a 60 watt red bulb in a 75 gallon for temps of 76-78 avg and a basking light only during the day with a temp of 96-100 degrees.
