ATB's do ground more than any of the other Aboreal Boids.

However I think Branches with three points of contact provide the snake a secure hangout.

If we are talking limited time I would say a tub would be OK like less than a week but for any longer they need to have the security of an aboreal set up.

Otherwise you will just stress the snake out and thats not good for their health.

And, since we're talking Ammies, not good for your health either :D

if i did get atb's i would definitely give them the setup they need, its not that hard to do i was junt wondering.

another question, do they try to escape like other snakes?

Not sarcasm at all...factual. They don't try and escape but given the opportunity they will.

He's right. They do great in the 'ol waterbowl/hidebox/paper towel setup. They also do great in a more elaborate setup. Your choice.

goregrind Nov 09, 2006 05:16 AM

if i got an amazon i would probably give them an aboreal setup but its nice to know that i can put them in my rack if i need to.

Seems like a strange thing to do with an arboreal snake.
Not saying it doesnt work...I havnt tried it and dont plan on it...just kind of goes against the meaning of arboreal.

tortoiseguy65 Nov 09, 2006 01:19 PM

I have 2 ATBs, a subadult orange/yellow and a juvenile brown/orange. Both are kept in arboreal cages with plenty to climb on. The subadult I have only seen climb on a couple of occasions in the 3 years we have had her. The juvenile was just purchased at the NARBC in Tinley park this year. It generally climbs and basks after feeding. I hope to obtain a few more specimens and complete a nice breeding group. I currently feed these guys in separate rubber maid tubs of appropriate size. How does everyone else feed? Is using tongs the most popular method or what? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Take care,

I feed with tongs in the cage.
