If the temp is too hot

shuggie728 Nov 06, 2006 04:51 PM

If the cage is too hot will it make the collareds stop eating????
the baskin temp goes between 100-110... and the rest stays around mid 90's until the late afternoon... I turn the heat off and at night it goes between 70-80.
Will that effect the eating??

Mine won't touch ANYTHING for about 3-4 days now. I've offered EVERYTHING... waxworms, butterworms, meal and super worms, crickets, grasshoppers, roaches, mealworm beatles, and moths.
they aren't eating anything and its starting to worry me especially because they are so skinny.

help please.

if you haven't taken in a fecal sample to a vet, i would do that, just to make sure bugs aren't bothering them.

it is also a bad time of year because sometimes they try to brumate themselves, but if they are not healthy, you don't want them to brumate.

if i have skinny lizards or lizards that refuse to eat, i will hand feed them babyfood mixed with a little water to make it easier to get through the syringe

I'm taking a fecal sample to the vet tomorrow.
Hopefully that will give me some answers.

Babyfood... wat type? vegatable or meat ones??
any preferences?

Definitely meat ones since collareds are carnivores.

I feed my anorexic lizards Hill's Prescription Diet A/D mixed with a little water and calcium and vitamins. It's a high calorie canned cat/dog food that really puts the weight on fast.

Always been told high 80's to 90 in the day at the cool end, maybe reduce the wattage of your bulb so it has to work harder to give you the same heat on the basking spot, but turn the thermostat down to say 88, so the rest of the tank is a little cooler. That way the bulb will probably be on most of the time but the temperature will be lower through the rest of the tank.
