Why are my BP eggs lumpy on the side that's facing up?

My ball python eggs have been in the incubator for 4 days now. The eggs are looking lumpy on the outside. The underside that is burried in the vermiculite is smooth, but the top side that is exposed is lumpy. Not sunken in, but lump looking. My incubator is a hovabator with a fan. I have the eggs in a container with damp vermiculite and water in the water resevour in the incubator. I do not have a lid on the container that the BP eggs are in. Does this matter? Should I have a lid on the container? Could this be why the eggs look lumpy? When I candle the eggs, the lumpy areas stay white and cannot be seen through, but the other areas on the eggs can be seen through well. Any advice? Thank you. :0)

I would disconnect the fan. Hovabators are great little incubators, but its to small of an area to use the fan with snake eggs, it drys out the exposed part of the egg to fast and will kill your eggs. I know from personal experience, and have seen the same exact problem with others also. Good Luck with your eggs.
