Apadora breeding

Jaykis Nov 06, 2006 06:32 PM

My female has been rolling the last 1/3 of her body upside down. Seems to be too early for ovulating, but..... Any opinions? She's 12'. about 36lbs.

...throw a male in with her.

I have seen pythons ovulate very early at the beginig of winter before. Not exactly sure why. You don't want to miss her window of oppurtunity. The problem is that males may not be interested in breeding yet. ANy time I have seen a female ovulate early and not breed until later in the winter, the clutches were small with lots of slugs.

That would be great if you can get the to breed successfully. I have heard of only one breeding last year and the babies all hatched with bugeyes. My pair is too small, at least the female. 8-9' male and 6-7' female. Great snakes anyway you look at it though. Good luck.

you can palpate the female to see if she has follicles. let her relax, and crawl over your hands on the floor as you gently apply pressure under her belly, clamp your hands in a fixed position around her body, with you fingers over her underside and let her squeeze through you hands as she moves (let her do the work). If you dont feel follicles, theres no way she can ovulate anytime soon. These guys have huge follicles just prior to ovulation. If shes inverting shes probably responding to some change in environmental conditions, but not necessarily breeding season entry. Nevertheless, put the male in with her just after youve misted the cage alot with cold cold water, then let the cage warm up and become humid. Under those conditions, you will have the most sucess. Also, keep the male in with her for long periods of time, and dont bug them. let them do their thing.......as long as they dont fight within the first few hours (if you remove the hide boxes), you should be fine if no food or shedding is involved while theyre together.

I had them together for a week or so last year, male is the same lenght, but 22 lbs. I know the issues with cannabilism, but they seem to get along ok. I'll hook up the mister I had used last year. She does not like to be picked up, anywhere I suspect that there are similar breeding techniques with Apadora and Boelens. There's not a lot of overlaping territory with the two, and it's mainly altitude, from what I can see in O'Sheas maps in his book.
