Has anyone heard of giving small amounts of bamboo as a treat???

Obviously, the lack of response to your post suggests that no one here really knows the answer. I sure don't & I've got a stand of bamboo on the property. I'd say, though, that since bamboo shoots are on the human menu & Pandas seem to like the leaves, where could there be harm?
