First Feeding Questions

Mouse198727 Aug 07, 2003 05:12 AM

I got my first cornsnake {albino, not sure of gender} on the 2nd, and yesterday I gave him his first meal. It was the smallest frozen pink I could find, but still, it looked big compared to my snake. I heard on the forum that as long as it isnt bigger then one 1/2 the the snakes diameter that it should be fine. It only took my snake about three minutes to get it down and that was mostly because it took him so long to manuever the it in the right position. Anyway, my question is, how long until I'm "in the clear" when it comes to him throwing it up. He hasn't thrown it up yet, but I dont wanna be all excited about his first meal until I know it is going to stay down. Please tell me.

ALSO: I notice a certain person and his website are being censored in the forum. I haven't been here long enough to know why, but being the curious person i am, can someone tell me?

A general rule of thumb is to offer a food item that is no wider than 1-1.5 times the width of the widest part of the snake. That said, many people feel that feeding their snake several smaller food items aids in their snake's digestion.

Can't help you on whomever was censored.

Usually your safe handling the snake again 48 hours after feeding. There are no garantee's though, I've had them regurge well after the 48 hours on occasion. But a general rule of thumb is, if your temps are good, 48 hours is more than enough time.

The censorship is over a spat between that certain person and the owner of KS (Jeff B). It's complicated and frankly a bit silly, but all comes down to the certain person would NOT censor his message board when Jeff B wanted him to, so now he and his web site are censored here.

Thanks for the info. I plan on feeding him again in 2 days. Thanks also for the censorship info. It seems like the owner of the forum has a bit of a control problem. If your reading now, they have "groups" for that.
