QUESTION! Shedding/Loss of Appetite

standarduprise Nov 07, 2006 12:05 PM

I have recently aquired a okeetee corn snake. I have fed him twice now (pinkies), but his last meal, scheduled for Saturday, he unexpectedly refused. I started noticing that his eyes were turning a bluish/grey color and his skin was becoming dull. From what i understand, he is about to shed - however, is it normal that he is refusing to eat? He hasn't eaten in a week and Im starting to get worried. How long til he sheds and when will he eat again? Im a beginner, so I dont know much. Thanks! PS: Take a look at the picture!

well it seems normal to refuse food before shedding (thats what mine do), once he sheds he should be back to eating the day of or the day after. also do you feed him frozen thawed pinks or live. some snakes will eat frozen for a while, than refuse. if this happens you should try live. (my snakes will only eat live).

It is 100% normal for your snake to refuse food while shedding..

in a day or 2 his eyes will clear up then a few days later he will shed out... you can feed him as soon as he is done shedding..

good luck ~ Mike Russo

Today his eyes cleared, and have returned to the normal state. What can I expect now? About how long til he actually sheds? I tried to feed him again today, but he still seem uninterested. Again, thanks for the help!

sometimes it takes 3-7 days for a shed.....sometimes even longer....as long as 15 days. just mist the lil one once in the am and once at night and the shed should come off pretty soon and he should be ready to eat within mins sometimes about 3 days!
