Pneumonia?

reptileszz Aug 07, 2003 06:15 AM

Hi all, I very rarely post here but have been lurking for a long time. I have an adult male ball that I suspect of having a respiratory issue. I have an appt tomorrow for the vet. I have to use a new/different vet than usual as mine is on vacation.

Can anyone tell me what to expect at the vet in terms of diagnosis and treatment?

The snake is holding its head up and wheezes periodically when being held. There were 2 bubbles spotted yesterday but none today. I have no idea how this happened. He is in a hot room that never goes below 75 degrees. I have been turning the heat lamp off as it has been HOT in there during the day. He last ate a big rat about 5 weeks ago. I had attributed his non-eating to just being a typical ball and/or shedding.

Thanks for any advice,
Carole

Humidity is as important or moreso than temp. What is his temp and his humidity?
My only URI was a new young blood and he cleared right up with 10days oral baytril.
Good luck with yours.

Hi, the temps are 95-100 on the hot side and 85 on the cool side now. At night they are somewhat cooler. I had turned off the supplemental heat because it was so hot in the house. I WAS in the vicinity of about 90 on the high during the day with 75 being the low at night. The humidity has been high in general here in New England with the outdoor humidity being 100% the last couple of days and it has been averaging 60-80 percent in the house. There is a water dish in the cage (neodesha) which I assume also raises the humidity. I have assumed that during summer the humidity here is ideal. It is winter I worry about it.

Thanks,
Carole
