Crocodile growth rates

jtrob Nov 07, 2006 04:36 PM

Hello,

I am wondering what the growth rates are for Nile and African Dwarf crocs? How much growth can be attained per year under ideal conditions? How long does it take for either species to reach their maximum size?

Thanks for your time

Nile crocodiles 2 ft a year if you feed well and are smart on how you feed. Keeping the temperatures up is also important. In the summer when it is very warm in Texas we feed alot of food 4-5 times weekly to the younger and fast growing animals. We also tend to feed until they are satiated. If you provide any seasonal variation expect the growth rate to be less.

Another big key to creating a big crocodile is genetics. Not all crocs are destined to be giants just as all people are not going to be 7ft tall.
