Leo eggs

nymph Nov 07, 2006 07:22 PM

I have a leo egg. This is my females first time ever laying eggs. One was laid in her humid hide, and I did not see it so it dried out. I usually open the humid hide to moisten it everyday but I had pneumonia and was back and forth to the hospital. The other one she laid right in front of me. It was pretty soft. She gets a lot of calcium so I don't know why it was so soft. Now it has been about 11 days and it look a little tan not white. Is it viable?? I saw the pink spot on the side of it and moved it into the vermiculite just as it was laid. I have been incubating at 82 degrees. Should I just keep it through to the end?? Or is it no good?? My other female looks like she has eggs now too. This will be her first. I would like to hatch them if they are viable. So how can I know?? I took a flash light and looked through the side of the egg, did NOT move it, and I don't see anything. Would I see something yet?? Thanks!!

Is it hard? They usually harden up after 12 or so hours. Either way, keep it incubated to be on the safe side. Good luck!

Yes it did harden up, but is there any way to tell if it is fertile or should I just let it go and wait the full 45-60 days and see what happens? I noticed that the one who laid eggs has a mark on her neck again, will she lay eggs again this soon?? That would be 4 more eggs then since her cage mate is gravid!!!This is all new to me so any info on breeding cycles would be great. Thank you!!

They get a mark on their neck when they're with eggs?

Nymph meant that the mark as a sign of breeding reoccuring.
Anyway, if it is gravid again...they usually lay within 20-30 days after the breeding occured. As long as the eggs aren't turning dark and caving in....I'd keep them in there. When you candle them you should see a pinkish area within the egg. Even if you don't still keep it in. I've had some eggs that I thought were bad, hatch healthy specimens.

At what point can you see a baby gecko developing when you "candle" the egg. I have not picked it up or moved it at all just shined a flash light through the side.
