Brumation question?

trustwhitey Aug 07, 2003 07:14 AM

Should you put your snakes into hibernation prior to being breeding size? I think it would be beneficial to have the extra months to feed them and have them grow, but I'm not sure if this will affect the ability to breed them in the future.
Thanks for any help!

How do you get a regulated temperature low enough to induce brumation when the average temp in the house is between 65 and 70 degrees?

My experience indicates that the males shoot blanks after the first brumation but are good after the second. The sperm should be good if sexual maturity comes between the first and second brumation. IMHO, only one brumation is necessary for females to be fertile. Good luck.
