it is very common to find morphs (to the untrained eye) in regular pet shops? I'm not talking spiders, mojaves, and the such. Could you find fires, womas, yellow bellies, granits, or others? Have you found anything?

I have never seen anything like that, but I have actual reptile stores that know what to look for around me.
Granites can be found, from what I understand.. They are a more common pattern, but it may not be genetic..
My experience has been no luck with finding anything super amazing at any store I go into for an amazingly cheap price (ie morphs for a normal snake price).. This is not to say that I haven't looked!

-Ohh, what a Lady-
I was in Petco Monday, I was so mad!! on one side of the isle there was a dead baby corn and on the other side there was 5 balls 3 of which still had skin stuck to them, and I mean it was BAD, I called over the manager and gave him the riot act! I had him open the rack and pulled out the snakes one at a time and showed him how these will be dead next if he did not get his head out of his @#$%. Any way I told him I would be back to see if they where cleaned up on Thursday, and if not he might be getting a visit
Sorry just venting!!!
My comment is I saw in the cage that one looked like a ringer from pictures I have seen on KS and one was super bright yellow like a blonde with almost no eyes in the pattern or granite specks. Thursday if its not fixed I am taking pictures and I will try to post if I am not in jail hahah.
Someone post a pic of a granite the other day from petco. So is it worth looking around? I am not an expert for sure but I think it is very educational to look at all the variety on our passion BPs!!! And maybe we will save a life while we are at it.
My babies
I found one that looks to me like a low quality black pastel...and for $30 is was worth buying him.
Even if he doesn't prove out...I like how he looks, so it all works out.

In my personal opinion and experience i think that maybe a few years ago you could find morphs like yellow bellies and fires in pet shops, only due to the fact that not many people knew what to look for. 90% of the pet trade ball pythons are either A from local breeders or reptile shows, which most people now know what a true yellow belly looks like, and if it was a breeder that breed the animal then im pretty sure they would know. As far as Petcos go they get their Balls from Gourmet Rodent, and they know what to look for to find morphs, and i dont see them sending out YBs or fires. Also all of the people that get in shipments directly from Africa, you almost never see an actual morph, maybe something unproven, maybe something cool but never an actual morph anymore, and i think there are a few reasons for this. #1 They have computers over there and they know which morphs are what, if they can get a few extra bucks or a few extra hundred bucks to sort through them, trust me they do.. Also ALOT of the YBs coming in are all breed there in their own facilities, they know they are YBs b/c they breed them, and of course they are not going to sell them as normals. Noah is a VERY smart man
.... This is just what i know and beleive, sorry if i went into it a little deep
Hi there,
In my neck of the woods, rumor has it that one of the local PETCO's had a hypo, or carmel, that someone came in and bought for $80. The person buying it said it was worth 8K. The people at PETCO have no clue about anything they sell, so they were just like "whatever". I frequent them to see their BP's, cause you "never know', and one of the employees told me this happened. So I showed them pics of a bunch of morphs, from Kevins book, and he picked out the hypo and carmel. Not sure if the guy buying lucked out, but it makes the hunt that much sweeter.

I found both of these at a local Reptile only store. They have both proven genetic, we should produce supers this year. The top two pics are of the female that produced the EmberBall, the bottom pic produced the Mojave and Pastel crosses, calling them Sulfur Balls for now.

I got an adult male at a pet store for $60.00 that I think has some potentail. He has almost no head pattern, a neck pattern simmilar to the tribal ball, very unusual blushing and flaming, is almost 100% free of eyes in his alien heads (the ones he does have are hypoish) has graphite colored eyes, smokey lips a clear white stomach and the overall coloration of a slightly browned out axanthic. I still don't have a camera so I can't post pics.
The guy at the pet store said that he got him from a friend who has a traveling reptile show. He didn't know anything else about the snakes origin.

Not impossible - but not likely either...
As mentioned - the ch's are pretty picked through by people that know what to look for - this doesn't necessarily rule out that you could get a het or something new -- but most likely at best you'll get a nice looking aberrant normal.
Those that order cbb from some of the bigger breeder/suppliers - well the breeders know what they are selling them -- and again you might end up with a het (probably one of Jeffs cheapy het albino males - LOL) but not likely they would mistakenly ship out a Woma.
But now for the good news - those of us that do rescues are starting to get morphs in as rescues too - pastels, cinnys, mojaves, yellow bellies have been turning up the past year or so -- the other place where people dump their unwanted animals is at the local pet shop. So there is a chance that you can come across an abandoned one in the local shop - that the shopkeeper doesn't know the value of the animal.
Good luck with your search!!!

you can find stuff, but it won't be obvious stuff... yellow bellies almost looked like normals, and that's the reason a lot of them were coming through... I'm not sure the Vin Russo het lucy are very different than normals (I've never seen one)... so go hunting and dink around.. that's what I do and I have great fun doing it!
Regards,
Bristen.
