I got a pair of tiny baby housesnakes about two months ago and was told they were both feeding on unscented pinks.
The female took to them right away from me but the male has still not eaten and I am getting very worried about him (and frustrated!)
At first I had them on newspaper, but they seemed stressed so I moved them to cocoa bedding. They are each in a shoebox size container, heating ranging from low 70s on the cool side to a hot spot around 88, lots of room to choose. There are tiny hide boxes on each side.
I breed my own mice and offered a tiny pink, live, left overnight and the male ignores it. So I waited a week, tried a brained pink - no luck. Tried PK and FT, waiting at least 5-6 days between so not to stress him. I tried washing the pink and scenting it with fish, and then putting a tiny minnow in the shallow water dish. Nothing.
He seems terrified, he flees every time I open the box to peek (which I try to do very infrequently) - my other housesnakes and the female never do that.
I even tried scenting a pink on my geckos - nothing. I can't find a local place with anoles or any lizards, do you think driving somewhere far to find one may work if he won't take lizard scented?
I don't want to try to forcefeed him, he is so tiny and delicate, but I am worried he will starve.
Any suggestions?
