I am moving this Thursday. I am going to tell you guys my plans for moving the babies, and I am hoping to get some feedback...
First, I bought a glad press-n-seal for each gecko. They should all have enough room to strech out a bit, but not enough room to be active. I am going to punch large breathing holes, fill them with paper towels, and secure them all in a box on top of towels, filled with paper towels to help avoid too much shifting, and holes. I have oxygen-activated hand warmers. They get a bit warm, so I'm going to wrap them in paper towels and place them in the middle of the press-n-seals. They will be replaced as necessary.
Of course I'm encouraging them to gorge themselves as much as possible prior to the move. I know that the move will stress them out a bit and they may not eat at first when they're settled, so I want them to pack on as much weight as possible.
My worry is the length of my move. Most geckos are shipped for a max time of 24 hours. Here is my schedule:
Thursday - 7:00 pm - leave, drive 6 hours, sleep in hotel
Friday - 9:30 am - drive all day - sleep in hotel
Saturday - early - arrive at my new home (Extended Stay) and set up their enclosure hopefully by noon.
Now, I realize this is longer than 24 hours. Since I will be staying in hotels each night, should I set up the tanks, plug them in, and let them "stretch out," drink and eat if they choose? Or will the constant changes stress them out even more?
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. There is no way I'm leaving them behind. My family wouldn't take care of them right, and I can't bear to give them away.
