Green Tree Frog Illness? Please Help!

GeeMacca Nov 08, 2006 10:16 AM

I have 3 green tree frogs, one of them this morning, was sitting on the ground, which is weird, as they dont normally do this, thinking he may have fallen down and would get back up, I turned away, I heard a weird noise, a half wheeze/half squeak, and he was laying on his back, barely breathing, I figured he wasnt going to make it, so I watched for a while and he brought his legs up into his body and I thought he was dead, I removed him and put him into a small container and he began breathing, albeit very faintly, I had to leave for work, so I figured I'd leave him, I moistened the smll container and left him somewhere warm, but I figured he would be dead upon my return. When I returned he now seems fine, sitting as normal, the container was too small for a live frog, so I put the container, open, into the tank with his friends, and he crawled out and hid. So I want to know if anyone knows what was wrong, how can I stop it again, and if he'll be fine now? Thanks in advance!

I've since found the frog on his back again, and I believe he is dead now, there are no obvious markings/symptoms on the frog, anyone know what could have caused this, and any way to prevent the rest of them going the same way? Please?

The only time I have found one of my frogs on its back like you have mentioned, and yes it was a green tree frog, was when I negelected them and one starved to death.

I since found out that because most of these are wild caught, and I hadnt had him long, could have been major stress, injury or he could already have been very old when i got him, and he wasnt well enough to feed.
