just purchased a calm? ATB?

mack1time Nov 08, 2006 12:27 PM

I recently traded my last 2 baby snow corns to a petland in my area for a bright orange patterened ATB about 4 feet long with not much history given.

Now for some reason he is very calm an handleable. I am new to tree boas, but from what I have read they should be quite the opposite. Also she is usually on the paper substrate coiled sloppily and hardly usese the vertical vines I have supplied,

Should I be Concerned? Health probs?

1.1 Columbian common boas (Zeus, Athena)
0.1 BCI 50% het albino salmon (Aprodite)
1.1 Corn snakes (Appolo, Boreas)
0.1 King snake tri striped cal morph (Helios)

Is the snake eating?

Have you allowed for a temp gradient?

If the snake seems "listless", tired acting, you could have a probelm on your hands. ATB's aren't nearly as forgiving as corns, which you may know but doing some research on husbandry and modifying any lapses on your part will go a long way in answering your question. Give the husbandry changes a few weeks and watch for a change. You need to do this research yourself, you'll be a better herper for it.

An adult, colored amazon that you traded two snow corns for could easily be an import. Petland sounds like a chain, again, a likely import. If your husbandry is correct and the snake doesn't feed or produces foul smelling, runny feces, you need to see a vet more than likely.

Tryin' to help, don't take me wrong please. ATB's are wonderfull snakes but do take some greater measure of care than colubrids.
