Cyprus is not an ok substrate due to the chance of your dragon getting impacted. When dragons eat they tend to eat sand or whatever substrate you are currently using and if it's a pebble or a peice of mulch, it can cause paralysis and possibly death. Best to stick with washed sifted playsand, paper towels or newspaper.

I use paper towels, keeps the cage clean and is VERY easy to clean up the little potty spots of my beardie lol. Oh and they are cheap and easily found too.

I was using strictly paper towels also until I came home one day and one of my girlie beardies had ingested about 3 small sections of it and part was sticking out of her mouth, I had to pull it out. Now I use Newspaper in the adult enclosures.

Thanks guys...I use play sand as well i just wanted something to back up why not to use it...i also heard something about a chemical that is hazardous to them...thanks again!

wow I never had my adult female ingest any of it.... wouldn't newpaper be worse if she ingested that? Not critisizing, simply asking for knowledge on the subject

I'm sure newspaper would be bad if they ingested it as well, but the thing with paper towels is that they are easier to pick up and move around than the stiffer newspaper that just seems to stay on the bottom of the cage. She must have been trying to eat a leaf or something and picked it up, probably because it's so absorbant it stuck to her tongue and went down with it. Newspaper doesn't do that.
