I have an old 40 breeder that I like for its dimensions, but I hate the sliding lid. It seems like it just takes up so much space. I have to either stand to one side of the tank, or I have to pull the whole lid off in order to get into it.
Rather than get rid of the aquarium, I'd like to make a hinged lid to go on top.
Has anyone done this? I made a lid for a 36, and it's working nicely, but it's a solid lid, and I have to pull the whole thing off to get into it.
Anyone know what it'd take to build a hinged lid for this 40?
Specifically, how can I attach this so that it will be mounted secure enough to keep snakes in, yet removable for cleaning? I'd rather not just drive screws in through the sides into the plastic rim. I'd kind of like something that would look decent. I wouldn't be adverse to having to use a drill to tear it apart part way(if it was made so that a specific board would fit in somewhere & had to be taken out to remove the lid)
Anyone have any set specific plans that would work for it, rather than me just winging it, like I did with the 36 I built? If no one else has any, I'm just gonna wing it, like I did with the 36, but I thought it might work better if I had some tips.
thanks.
