OK im wondering if anyone can help...i have had a gtp for a few months ....it has eaten and shed fine...it did get mites for a while but i got rid of them...now my problem...a few weeks ago my snake refused food and then shed a few days later...which is normal...and it usually picks right back up after it sheds....but this time it stopped eating and i still cant get it to eat and it is starting to get pretty thin and i cant figure it out, temps and humidity are good....i cant even piss him off to get a bite and hold out of him....any help would be very appreciated

Where did you get the animal from? Sounds like it could have been an import if it had mites and such. I'd take it to the vet if after only 3 weeks it's showing signs of weight loss. It should take a lot longer than that for anything of the sort. I've had hatchling corns that refused food out of the egg and didn't get thin even after 2 months of not eating. An otherwise healthy young snake should easily be able to go 3 weeks without food.

Hello if the snake is a adult male they go of feed from time to time somtimes only eating 6-7 months out of the year.

Still doesn't explain the weight loss in only a few weeks. My males (at least my colubrids) have gone off food for 3 months at a time and lost relatively little weight. Certainly not enough to make them look thin. An adult chondro should not look thin in a few weeks. My female doesn't even look thin and she gets fed only every 2 weeks.

well its probably about 1.5 years old....unfortunately it got mites from me cuz i put a tree in its crappy first home that i didnt know had mites on it...but since then it is in a pvc cage and has no mites now...i just cant figure it out

I'm surprised that you got snake mites from a tree branch. Most likely what you had were wood mites. So this animal is captive born and bred? Where did you get it from and what do they have to say? It's possible that your male if that's what it is has just gone into breeder mode and has gone off feed from that. It's just that weight loss makes it suspicious. I'd have a vet check done along with a fecal.

i got it from my friend who owns the pet store where i have gotten many of my snakes....he got it from a guy who had it and moved here from florida and had no where to keep it so he sold it to my friend...i have never sexed it so i dont know what it is
