new baby leo, I have some concerns.

xagros Nov 08, 2006 08:29 PM

ok heres the low down, bought him last night and today was his first day in his home. its only aprox 1 month old, about 3 inches in length. I have his home setup really nice with every concideration in mind. I have done tones of reading...

Here are my concerns, first off its pretty thin actually really thin from what I see. But still is very young so I her this could be normal. I have pin head crickets for him to eat but he has not ate one yet.

I am worried about him not eating. it doesn't move alot.

I got calcium powder, should i have a little in a flat dish or just sprinkle on his crickets??

should i be worried? his colors seems very bright and he is now 9:30 pm starting to move in his home. he seems more scared of the baby cricket then anything. he watches it sometimes but yet to eat.

th fact of him not eating bothers me but i guess it could br stress related.

You could probably look at the other 50 posts concerning this. If you bought him last night and he is not eating......that is completely normal. It will take him a day, a week...sometimes more to feel comfortable enough to eat. You should have a dish in there and dust the crickets with calcium.

just a quick idea if hes still not eating or seams scared of the crickets after he has settled in a little try holding them in some tongs (got mine at the pet store they are long bamboo ones) if you hold it by its but it still moves a lot My baby was terrified of them when I got him because they let the crickets run loose int he cage with them at the pet store and as far as I can tell he probably go bitten causing some fear of them I've had him almost 4 months and hes finally starting to hunt them for a while I would hop them around the cage in the tongs..if I let them loose hestill freaks... we also keep a small bowl of mealies in there all the time...as for the calcium I found a soda bottle lid is the perfect size both my geckos use theirs a lot

If it's only 3 inches, I doubt it's a month old, so the tinyness is probably nothing to worry about.

Remember to remove the crickets after a while so that the gecko doesn't get too stressed. Just offer them to him 2x daily or so (morning and night) until he calms down enough to eat.

First off I would like to say ty for all the quick responses and support. He/She is doing a 100% better.

Took her first drink late last night and eat 2 crickets since then! Zephyr is actively moving around in the new home and seems to love it. Zephyr even ventured up one of the artificial plants on the side and managed to clmb up a bit.

I can't tell you guys how happy I am seeing such a change from yesterday. I probably was just getting all worried for nothing.

I will post up pics as soon as I can get some new digi batts.

Thx again. Zephyr thx you guys too.

It's great to read that your new baby is doing so well in his new home
Being afraid of crickets can also be from the breeder feeding their babies only meal worms-which is often done for hatchlings and very small babies so a very small Leo wouldn't even know right off what a cricket is
but as you can see-they catch on fast
Good luck with your new baby
Sandy
