Feeding: How regular for a 5 month old..

FireTalon Nov 09, 2006 04:50 AM

I was just wondering, it's probably going to be fed in the morning and evening, but I just wanted to be sure. It's gonna be hard because I have to get up so early for school, but I guess thats the whole commitment of it. If I get one, it's probably not gonna eat because of the stress.I just wanted to be sure, so clarification would be greatly appreciated

By 5 months, once a day should be ok, it's only the really young ones that need the twice a day feedings. That being said, it won't cause any harm to offer food twice a day, just to see how much the little gecko eats...

Thanks, thats such a relief aswell, but of course I will feed the leo twice when possible, its just that once is easier for me on schooldays. Thanks again

Just in case, how often would I feed a 5 month old per week? I know that daily is much better, but I was just wondering.. Thanks

Once a day 7 days = seven times. :P I feed mine at about midnight every night, right before I go to bed.

lol ok, I go to bed at 9:00 so I'm guessing that thats ok aswell? Thanks

I would make sure to set the day/ night light timer to reflect that sort of bedtime. Make sure your geckos are "awake" for several hours before you feed them. For example, our gecko's lights go off about 7pm. We try to keep the room they are in dark after that time (no overhead lights) sometime between 11pm-1am we feed them.

So I would suggest you "have the sun set" as it were a few hours before 9pm, maybe like 5 or 6pm your local time (and make sure the shades aren't open or anything like that and keep the rest of the lights off). Does that help?

Exactly as Sleepy stated. It's getting dark here at about 5:30, and my snake lights, which are the ambient light for the gecko, go off at 7. This gives my boy a few hours to roam before feeding time.

Thats great thanks! It is getting quite dark over here in England, and im a sort of eco person so my lights are not on when im not using them, but I will use them to create the sunset effect lol. Thanks again

For a 5 month old leo you can feed it in the evening once everyday if you like. Since leo are active in the evening feeding them at night would probably be better. You can even feed it everyother day if you like; that works also. I wouls supplement it with multivitamin about twice a week and calcium supplement everyother feeding for a five month old. Once he becomes adult, you can supplement it with multivtamin about once a week or everyother week and calcium supplement about 2 to 3 times a week.

If you also fed mealworms you can put some dusted ones in an escape proof dish or a small glass ashtray and your Leo can munch all it wants all night long
I have done this with my babies/juvies for many years and i then feed my crickets every other day or so
hope this helps

Most of my 5 month old leos are over 30 grams, with a few in the 25 gram range. These are only fed 3 times a week, one of which is dusted with a vitamin powder, and they have a calcium dish avaliable at all times.

If the Leo is smaller than 20 grams I would feed it once a day. Otherwise 3-4 times a week will be fine, if it is healthy that is.
