Need Help guy, All my leos seem to be eating/pooping less.

jack7777766 Aug 07, 2003 09:24 AM

Alright Im getting really worried.
I have three leos, two of which have had outstanding growth and are at 70 and 50 grams. And one wich I purchased july 20 at 18 grams, He grew during the first two weeks to 24 grams.
Now though its been about a week and a half and I weighed them all two days ago, both of my larger ones seem to have stopped growing and the little one was back down to 18 grams.
I have also been noticing that the larger ones have stopped eating as much and now all of them dont seem to be pooping as much. I felt one of the larger ones belly a day ago and it felt empty, which is unusuall since their bellies are always full and plumped,
There really hasnt been any changes with the large ones, Except that I changed from sphangnum moss to bed-a-beast in their humid hides. But I think there seemed to be decreasing pooping before that. However the little one I change his cage after two weeks because the shoebox has little dips on the sides and the water was spiling. I also changed his food bowl because the mealies were getting out. and I changed his humid hide, although its basically the same the the first one had a small crack in the bottom, but now and then he had moist paper towel as substrate in it.
I noticed a week or two ago my temps were spiking allittle too hot and I bought a thermostat, which has had all of them at the right temps since friday..

Im thinking of stopping by petco and buying some waxworms and some crix to see if they start back up.
I didnt check for poop today but Im kinda worried, I think they might go back to usuall any day now but Im still worried.

Does anything seem wrong from what I said, Could something be wrong with all of them??
Any input is appreciated.

Jack

And I just recently changed the mealie food I keep in the food bowl from RepCals Cricket Feed to Fluckers.

are they all houed together? If so seperate them. Also if you chaged the younger ones tank around completly it might take some time to get used to it again. But the problem you need to worry about is the weight. If they are losing weight like you said 5 grams like u posted or there abouts is a good amount of weight in my opinon and I would go to the vet with a fecel sample granted they might night be sick but it is truley better it figure that out now then waiting trying to do things to make them gain weight and by doing that wasting time ang them get sicker.

Thanks,
They are all housed in separate tanks.
Since I havent checked acurately in 2 days today Im leaving work early and Ill give them all a little chekup, I dont think its any parasites or anything like that.
Im gonna monitor everything more closely the next few days, and if I do see any more weight loss Ill definitely take them to a vet.
The one thing is as of this point I dont think I would even trust a vet, I still havent had the need to go to one and since It would be my first time to whichever I go Ill probably be alttle uneasy.

Well that is alot of weight for the little guy to loose quickly. The larger ones I would not worrry to much they go through spells of feeding and fasting. Do you keep this feed in the dish in the leo tank? If so take the Flukers out. Leos cannot ingest the grain and such it will plug them up tight or make them sick.

Yeah I kept it in the bowl, I never thought of that , Ill take it out first thing!!!! I never had problems witht the repcal cricket feed would this be OK to put in the bowl instead of the fluker's??

I feel like an idiot for not hinking of that.

Thanks

not sure, I don't know what the repcal cricket feed is. I would keep the mealies you feed for the week in a bowl with the Flukers outside the cage to let them gutload. Yea get it out a.s.a.p. Keep an eye on the little one hopefully they are not impacted. They may have just stopped eating because they did not like it. There is a new powder out on the market for Leos can't think of it right off will let you know when I locate it you can keep it in the food dish.

Im so damn stupid, I went over everything in my head but the damn fluckers.
I do already gutload them at least 2-3 days before feeding but since I like to leave allot of mealies about 2-3 day supply in the bowl I felt like if its empty the mealie will loose nutritional content, wont it???
The repcal I had great results with both gutloading and keeping in the bowl, the first adult grew 50grams in 5-6 months, and the other I got at 6 grams TINY grew to 50 in 3-4 months.
Its kinda really small pellets a little bigger than sand particles, probably bad huh???
Here is a link to it you can see the size of the particles, the ingredients seem very nutritous in my opinion

I've used the RepCal cricket gutload before. The grains are still pretty big, in my opinion. Maybe you can grind it into a powder?

You can buy one of those grind and pistle sets. It looks like a porcelain or stone bowl with a round-ended stick that you use to stir stuff into a powder. Or you can just put some pellets into a ziploc bag and use something like a soft hammer to smash it. But be careful not to break the bag.
