Red-Eyed Tree Frog Pigment Problem-HELP!

AshSolo Nov 10, 2006 09:53 AM

For the past few weeks, my red-eyed tree frog has had bright green freckless on his skin where his pigment wont darken. As soon as I noticed the problem, I cleaned his cage through, but it hasn't gone away. He's also looking a bit on the skinny side, and when he sleeps for the day he doesn't pull his arms and legs in entirely (I think this just appears this way because of possible weight loss). The spots are not grey, so I don't think it's Oodinium.

I also thought maybe he was not getting enough sunlight, because I'm bothered by bright lights and tend to keep the light in my dorm room low. I've recently started pulling his cage out so that it is hit by sunlight during the day.

Any ideas? Anyone? Please?
Thanks

Well they don't need sunlight, they are nocturnal, but for their habits there should be 12on/12hr off periods with a tank light. What are the temps and humidity in the tank?

Spots are normal, but not getting skinny. How long have you had him? How often and how much do you feed him?

I have 2 and they are nearly adults, they are eating every day or two. I throw in a dozen each time. Once a week dusting the crickets.

How about the water dish/area? Are you treating the water to remove the chlorine/chloramine?
