Florida Kingsnake request...

BIGJACK Nov 10, 2006 02:02 PM

When I was a kid I fell in love with the big Florida Kings (not the Brooks). One thing I used to see is a nice brownish/black with deep yellow pattern, just an overall rich colored snake. Many I see now are more cream or dirty dingy white. Anybody have any like that ?

I think back in the day Florida kings entering the pet trade came from more different areas (like Paynes Prairie, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, etc...) than they do today (just the canefields). Some areas around Tampa Bay were known to have kings with real strong yellow coloration, but most of these areas are either developed, or off-limits, or devoid of kings at this point. Canefields kings can have a rich brown, but most don't have anything you can really call "yellow" on them. I've only caught one adult out there that had a strong yellow coloration in it's crossbands. It may still be in the collection of a friend. I'll see if I can get a picture of it at some point.

check out www.flkings.com/gallery if you want to see some normal Florida king pictures. Most of the pictures in the gallery were taken by me.

Largest king I've found so far has been five and a half feet, roughly. I've only found 2 or 3 that were over five feet. Typically, most are about 40".
