Got tagged today.......Picture request

I was trying to get into the tank. When I first moved some substrate, I saw her head pop up. I moved my BRB with a small hook. She started to move away and I thought that her head had gone behind the water dish. I reached out to untangle her tail from the temp probe wire and all of a sudden she got my finger.

Even thinking "If they get you, don't jerk away, you could hurt their teeth" (is that right?) I jerked my hand out really quick. Natural reaction. The feel of tiny needles being jabbed into my finger, 4 at a time. It hurt. Got it washed out and antibacterial cream on it.

I had just gotten done feeding some other snakes. I thought that I had washed my hands, 99.9% sure I did. Maybe I grabbed something that had some scent on it, maybe she was just really really hungry. Either way, she got fed today too. I'm going to have to make sure I handle her a little real soon. It kinda freeked me out.

Does anyone happen to have a good picture of the teeth that BRB's have?
Thanks,
Rob

I don't have any pics of a BRB bite, the last time I was tagged by my female rainbow boa, I was too busy bleeding all over the place to take a picture, LOL. She was over two years at the time, around 4.5 or 5' in length and don't remember the weight, probably 1300g. Took her out to hold and she reached around and grabbed the last two fingers of my right hand and hung on. At first it was only a little painful, figured if I didn't move she would let go, but she didn't. I decided a bit of cold water from the sink would entice her to let go but as as soon as I turned my body, she bite down harder. Now that started to hurt more. I could almost feel one of her teeth scraping against the bone of my little finger. The sink was too far away, I reached over and used the old grab by the head and apply pressure around the jaw trick, to get her to release. By then I was bleeding pretty freely and my hand ached but I managed to get her back into her cage, and closed her in, before I attended my injury. At the time, taking a picture wasn't on my mind. However there wasn't a whole lot to see (other than blood). She made about 4-6 holes along the top of my fingers and a few more along the bottom.

I definitely recommend not getting bit by an adult or sub adult Brazilian rainbow. It hurts much more than being bit by a baby.

I do have a picture showing the bite mark of a Texas Rat snake. Not sure if the tooth layout of colurbrids is the same as a boa but it should give you an ideal how the teeth are lain out. In comparison to the bite from my BRB, the Texas Rat Snake was a little love bite.

Ouch!! Sounds like a bit of an ordeal you had to go through. The bite that the rat left on you is good size bite.

I was actually looking for a picture of the teeh that a BRB has.
Thanks though,
Rob

It was actually quite interesting and amusing watching my rat snake gnaw at my arm. It really didn't hurt much after the initial little 'sting' of the strike. Definitely not like the bite from my BRB. Pity I don't have any pictures of it. If I ever get bit again (and I hope not LOL) I will get a picture of it, once I controlled the bleeding. Or of I feel ambitious enough, I will get a picture of the mouth and teeth of an adult rainbow.
