A 35-year-old Iban man received over 30 stitches to his thigh and leg after he was bitten by a crocodile during a fishing trip.
The incident occurred around noon yesterday at a small jetty in Kg Serambangun, about 1km from Tutong town. The victim, Nandong Anak Jarau, was dangling his legs over the jetty while fishing when the crocodile sprung up and bit him on the right leg. He was rushed to the Tutong Hospital by passers-by where he received over 30 stitches.
In recounting his ordeal, Nandong said he only caught a glimpse of the crocodile as the incident happened so fast, but estimated the reptile to be about six feet long. He added that he was unaware of the lurking danger as he was too preoccupied with his catch.
He managed to escape serious damage by putting up a fight, but not before the beast left a lasting mark on his right leg.
