Breeder loans???

Melinda666 Nov 10, 2006 08:08 PM

How does the breeder loans usually work? I've got a male 100% het Ghost and 100% het caramel that are looking for the ladies. Of course I don't have enough breedable ladies for everyone. Next year these fellas will be happy, but unless I loan them out, their not getting any action this year.

first thing first is find some one you can trust. I suggest you establish some sort of "friend ship" first. I can only guess how fast that 100% caramel would get jacked. I got an albino male that was loaned to me from louis of xtreme xteriors. I drew up paper work that we both signed. Each loan is going to be a bit different than the next. You gonna send the male or get some one to send you female? If i had a 100% het caramel i think id rather drop $400 on a breeder female than mess with a loan. That is just me though.

unfortunately not many people are going to use up a female to produce someone else's 50% poss hets. But typically breeder loans work in one of several ways. I've seen where someone lends out several females to a breeder. After all the babies have dropped the person that had the females gets x amount of the morph and the breeder keeps the rest of the litter and the females. Another method that works best for alot of people is the split the clutch approach. If the clutch has 8 babies each person get's 4 but the breeder get's to pick first with the other person getting alternate picks, this also works very well for both parties as the person with the expensive animal gets to add a few more morph animals to their collection or a few more animals to sell.

I would just hold onto them. Most people who have Het or Possible Het Caramel or Hypo females to loan out would not need to loan them out, ie: they would have a Homozygous or at the very least a Hetero male for their females. I think you will have a difficult time trying to loan out those particular males, and for the minimal gain you would get in a loan, why take the chance that one dies, that they come back with mites, skinny, diseased....

Thanks for the info! I now see both sides of the situation and I'm thinking "no way" on loaning out my fellas. I would be heartbroken if they died or were jacked. And I don't want the added stress of taking care of someone else's snake. I'm going to weigh every girl in my collection, maybe I'll get lucky and a couple ladies will be bigger than I thought. I had planned for every available girl to breed with my visual albino's, but I want a ghost and a caramel really bad!!

I don't think that many people do them. I currently am borrowing a family friend's female normal, and have bred her to my normal male; we are keeping most of the babies.
I would get anything in writing beforehand, and I'd hesitate to be the one to let my snake go to another person, unless it was someone I had a good and trustworthy rapport with.

I've done one, and it worked out well! You definately have to trust people that you work with, but as long as you are both on the same page, it is all good. Have everything in writing. I have a copy of my contract if you would like to see it.

Also, remember that things don't work out as well as one might have hoped.

It is only worth it if both parties want the same thing, and they can trust one another.
