Colombian Rainbow Cage Setup

coluberking25 Nov 10, 2006 09:23 PM

Hey I am still planning on getting this Colombian Rainbow. I wish to set it up in a naturalistic tropical vivarium, only with plastic plants to make it easier to maintain. Anybody out there who is willing to show off some pics of their rainbow enclosures to give me some ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of naturalistic enclosures. I don't have any postable pics right now but there are a few on my site on the Brazilian Care page. I agree, all plastic plants is the way to go. "Paulbuck" also has a killer looking set up for his brazilians. Maybe he can be coaxed into posting a full pic.

Actually my first snake ever (22 yrs ago now) was a Columbian Rainbow Boa. She was a great snake that tolerated alot of abuse from a pretty ignorant snake owner. They are really hardy; not as particular about humidity as BRB's (still keep them about 50 to 70%). If your going with a large, naturalistic enclosure give them a wide temperature gradient of 70 to 90 degrees. Even my BRB's, which spend the majority of their time in temps around 73-82, occasionally can be seen where the temps are nr. 90 (I've measured my gravid female at 91 degrees).
OK, here are some enclosure pics. The heat is supplied by incandescent night lights of varying wattages to create a wide gradient. I don't supply a bottom heat source.

And why I love Rainbow Boas:

Wow that is a gorgeous enclosure with gorgeous BRBs! I don't know how big The cage is gonna be that I have to get (it is 3-4 feet long the owner says). I believe he said it's being kept in a 30 gallon. But he's going to be bringing in pics soon to show me to give me an idea how to set it up. He says he has bark or soil with sphagnum on top. Claims the guy loves to hide under it lol. I'll keep you guys up to date on this!
