Can anybody help me??

I was thinking it was a black phase water snake, but after check several websites, (Scott Felzer's site included) I saw several melanistic garter snakes, so I think this one.

I have another red garter, but looks so different, especially the eyes, in melanistic are bigger.

I saw this morph is called blue jacket, is this right?

is not full black, it has two brown stripes close to the neck.

Is a new born wild caught. Feeding on guppies, growing so fast, when is close to shed, turns blue, specially on belly, very gorgeous, you can lost your sight looking its black eyes...

How much rare is a melanistic.

I will be waiting for your help.

regards.

saboteur.

It looks like a melanistic eastern garter...not real uncommon. With babies, the eyes are going to be a lot larger than in adults. Where was it found at?? that would help a bit with id

was caught in Jalisco Mexico, close to chapala's lake in a grassland.
