This female was photographed exactly as she was found in a mountain side forest in Central PA. I surprised her when I came up on her, wheich is why she is hiding. Thanks, Leo

Thanks for sharing all your great PA box turtle pictures Leo.

I live in North Central PA near Williamsport. Another plentiful turtle we have here is the wood turtle. I have seen them many times here in our creeks and crossing roads.

Hey Pat ~
Thanks, glad you like the pix. Yes, Wood Turtles are ALOT more plentiful in PA than in Massachusetts where I am at. I have a few good locations in Mass for finding Wood Turtles, but I can pretty much hit any proper habitat in PA and find them there. I usually find Wood Turtles when i'm looking for Hellbenders and Mud Puppies in the Western parts of the state.I'll probably get some pix up on the Wood Turtle forum over the next couple of days, swing by. Thanks, Leo

Yeah wood turtles are all over the place in pa by williamsport. Patman, do you see eastern box turtles around there. Where I go trout fishing i never see eastern, plenty of wood turtles but no easterns. Maybe the elevation is to high, but after looking at leo's pics I'm wondering why i'm not seeing more boxies. More specifically areas around penn's creek.

Interestingly, in places where I have commonly found Wood turtles, I have rarely if ever encountered Box Turtles. Thats in Mass., and Pa.
I would rule out elevation, I have found very young (little smaller than a tennis ball) Box Turtles at very high elevations in Carlisle ~ still within the tree line of course, but a strong hike up. I'm gonna post a couple Wood Turtle pics at that forum tonight. Thanks, Leo

I haven't seen many box turtles here. However, I have seen a couple killed on roadways and found their shells in the wood. They are definately here, just hidden I think. Probably hidden under brush and soil.
