Breeding "season"?

dantheham Nov 11, 2006 10:41 PM

Just curious.

Does anyone have eggs yet?

What projects are you working on?

Do you cool your leos?

How long do you leave your males in with the females?

Does anyone have eggs yet?

Yes. I run two seasons, normal Feb-Sept and off season Oct-May. So I have some females that are just starting their season now.

What projects are you working on?

Macks, Bells, Tangs, Bell Blazzing, Hybinos, Stripes, and some combos of these.

Do you cool your leos?

No, I allow them to work of a light cycle from the light that comes into the room. Or artificial light in the room.

How long do you leave your males in with the females?

Depends, if it's first year breeders or not. Proven breeders will be placed together for a day or two a couple times in the season. First years a day or two a few times before they finally lay. Then often between every couple clutches. I carefully watch first year males if they are to be bred with multiple females for signs of prolapse. They tend do over do it sometimes. Damn one track mind. LOL

Well I won't have any eggs again till Feb or March. When I do I should be putting out a few dozen Superhypo Tangerines, a bunch of normals, and anywhere from 8-200 Tangerine Albinos depending on how many females I decide to breed. A lot of these will be Jungle/Stripe morphs as well.

I'm also starting my RAPTOR, and Ruby-eyed "Murphy" Patternless Albino projects, and also hope to produce my first Sunglows this year too.

I hope to put my groups together after the new year. That's when I'll decide how many females are nice enough to breed and which of my holdbacks I don't really need.

Since we have a human baby due in 12 days I may only breed a few really nice animals, and a few to start projects.

I am just cooling my leopards now. They will cool down with lights decreasing for the next 4 weeks then will be warmed back up again for another 4 weeks while heavily feeding.

What projects are you working on?

SHTCT, Albinos, Red Stripes (as well as crested, AFTs, vipers, pictus, and days)

Do you cool your leos?

Yes, see above.

How long do you leave your males in with the females?

I put the male with the female in the morning, on day one and out in the evening on day two. However, I will cycle a male twice through each female (introduction seperated by a couple weeks).
