Oh Dear.......

kellybee Nov 12, 2006 09:00 AM

I have a bit of a dilemma, Albert has serious hormone issues. For the last two days he has been shedding his skin, right now half his face is hanging off, which looks quite silly, its all come off one side and the other is drooping.....

Anyway, his hormones are RAGING, he has been all over Elvis without much relent, I dont know whether to put her in with the Easterns for a while?

Any ideas? Compared to her he is quite big, he's 14" long, she is only 10", I dont want him to cause her unnecessary damage, he hasnt marked her but he seems to be biting her neck a LOT. His head is a heck of a lot bigger than hers, should I move her out of his way for a while?

Also, I'm wondering whether to brumate them as well as the Greenies? They're both a decent weight and size, Elvis has fat rolls around her neck, so considering she's the smallest I reckon she's the safest to allow sleep, though from what I understand they mostly dont hibernate over their first winter?

Been reading a lot today but cant find much info on this subject?

If that female he is trying to breed with becomes gravid, she can not brumate, (I'm sure you know that) He may not have been with any females, and now even this late in the season is feelin SEXY, It's not uncommon to see a female get her pretty orangey colors late either. So it's up to you if you want to seperate or not.

If you do keep them together, as long as he is not biting her neck (and causing bleeding)/becoming to sexually aggressive, they should be fine. (Keep and eye on them)

As far as brumation, even sub- adults if a healthy weight, want to sleep , they say let them. Just make sure they are hydrated, and keep an eye on them also.

I personally, never let any youngsters, just a few months old like say my C. vestigium kids brumate. I will brumate them next season. Any younger, or thin/ ill, or gravid lizards, stay up for the winter.

Guess your Elvy girl is just too HOT looking for the DUDE !

Thanks for the advice Eve, I think I'm going to keep the Westerns up for the time being, they havent been eating as much as I'd like the last week or so, and she's just turned a bit peachy across the back of her neck, in the white banding. Goodness knows what that means, but it isnt showing anywhere else so hopefully its just her age (Or something equally as weird), so we'll see.

Now Yoda is climbing on Yoshi though only seen him head bobbing the once a few days ago and no biting. He just kind of locks on and hangs there like his life depends on it. I hope the females dont start getting hormonal too, funny how things are never black and white, there's always the grey bit in the middle to throw us off balance, lol.
