Dragon Refusing Food

awesomo6000 Nov 12, 2006 07:05 PM

I have a female dragon about 5-6 inches. I've had her for about 2 months and she ate very well for the first month. Within the last few weeks, she has become progressively more and more picky. I originally thought that it might be because she was in the same tank with a male who was slightly (maybe 1/2" bigger, so I separated her out. She still is refusing food over a week and a half later. I've tried crickets and very small wax worms, and she pretty much just stares at them. She is currently in a 10 gallon tank on paper towles with a basking spot of 110 degrees and UVB light (Reptisun 7.0, I think). Is there anything I can do to make her eat better? She is getting very skinny, is there any point where I would start thinking about force-feeding her? Thanks for any response you can give

A 10 gal tank is rather small for her. Is she getting plenty of liquids? Have you taken a fecal sample to a vet to make sure she doesn't have parasites? What is the cool end temperature? How is she acting? Is she basking or hiding as far away as the heat she can get? Is her tank within site of your other dragon? If they can still see eachother, she may still be intimidated by your other dragon.

Have you tried phoenix worms? These are quite lively and dragons seem to like them.

If she doesn't eat in a few more days, I suggest getting her to a vet. She may have an impaction, especially if you have her on a loose substrate (ie sand).

Thank you for the input. I'll see what I can come up with in the next day or two.
