skin issues PLEASE HELP

thecaulkins Nov 12, 2006 08:06 PM

6 mo. old beard has been bleeding from under his scales for 2 weeks now! I thought it could be mites so I treated for mites (emptied glass cage, placed newspaper in bottom, nothing else but lizard followed instructions on bottle of "ZOO MED MITE OFF" with two treatments 72 hrs apart. not getting better, I read Bearded manual. I don't know what mites look like, but I don't see anything that looks like a critter on him. Their are small dried blood spots coming out from under scales all over him, there are even hundreds of little specks of dried blood on bottom of enclosure blood that looks like dust. The lizard has been eating well and all else seems ok concidering. Can take photos if it will help. any help appricated.

I don't know what that could be but I would say get that animal to a vet A.S.A.P.

bleeding under the scales does sound like a mite infestation. However if you soak your dragon in luke warm water for about 10 minutes you should see little dead mites in the water. They will look like blood colored (or dark red-brown) ground pepper like things.

Only other thing I can think of that may cause bleeding under the scales is either a bacterial infection or something irritation the skin. Bacterial infection could be scale rot.

If you don't see any sign of mites in the water after a soak, I suggest taking your dragon to a vet for examination.
