Respitory infection (I think)

Brian67 Nov 12, 2006 08:23 PM

I acquired a large 11' burm on thursday. The poor girl is showing signs of a respitory infection I think as it sounds as if she's snoring at times. I've yet to see any bubbles and when checking her mouth (yeah she liked that, lol) found it to look fine. I have a vet appointment for her on Mon (13th) in the morning. I've turned the heat and humidity up a bit wish me luck.

Any word back from the vet?

I've heard conflicting things about humidity. Is it better to raise or lower it when treating a URI?

I thought you were suppose to go hot and dry for RI.

I strongly encourage all to do the following at the first signs of a respiratory infection: Raise the ambient cage temps to the mid to high 80's(85-88) and the humidity to as close to 90% as you can. I have done this several times at the first signs of a RI and it has almost always eradicated teh infection with out the need for any medicine. Do not get me wrong, a vet trip should be taken and the vets guidance followed but this will (should) help until you can get the snake to a qualified vet. Todd

Well, she has the begginings of a RI so the vet put her on a round of antibiotics. I already had raised the humidity and the temps are now good, compared to where she was. Everything looks really good I'll keep ya's posted.

I have to agree with Todd. Its usually low humidity levels that cause RI and increasing temps & humidity has worked best for me, too.

Take care & keep us posted!
